Cross country skiing and biathlon are two of the sports most impacted by climate change. We think it would be misleading to call our products "green" or "environmentally friendly", but we're doing our best to minimize their environmental impact.
Ski poles made of carbon fiber have a large carbon footprint because manufacturing carbon fiber is very energy intensive. Producing 1kg of carbon fiber generates approximately 30kg of CO2. The plastic used in pole components generates approximately 6kg of CO2 for every 1kg of plastic produced. We have offset the carbon emissions of our poles and pole components using Gold Standard-Certified carbon offsets. We purchase our carbon offsets through Less Emissions, the top rated Canadian carbon offset provider according to a report by the David Suzuki Foundation.
We continue to work on ways to reduce our environmental impact. We use recycled plastic in our pole handles and are looking at ways to use recycled plastic in more of our plastic products. We are also working to reduce plastic packaging wherever possible.
